Choosing the right snorkel

Snorkels are vehicle and engine specific, so start with your exact make, model, series and build date. A kit for a Hilux 126 Series 2.8L diesel from July 2015 onwards will not fit the earlier 25 Series 3.0L, even though the utes look similar. Check the engine code and production dates on the listing, and call us if your build date sits near a changeover.

The next decision is V-Spec or ARMAX. V-Spec is Safari's standard range, made from tough UV-stable polyethylene and sized to suit a stock or lightly modified engine. ARMAX uses a larger bore body and air ram to move more air, which suits tuned diesels and vehicles working hard under load. If your engine is standard, a V-Spec does the job. If you have invested in performance work, go the ARMAX.

Remember a snorkel raises your air intake to roof height for dust and water crossings, but the rest of the vehicle still has limits. Pair it with extended diff breathers and stick to your vehicle's rated wading depth.

Snorkel FAQs

Will a snorkel let me drive through deep water?

It protects the engine's air intake, which is the most expensive thing to get wrong in a crossing. It does not seal the alternator, electronics, diffs or gearbox, so treat the manufacturer's wading depth as the real limit. Walk the crossing first and keep a steady bow wave.

What is the difference between Safari V-Spec and ARMAX?

V-Spec is the standard range sized for factory airflow needs. ARMAX has a wider bore and larger air ram to flow more air for modified or hard-working engines. Both are UV-stable polyethylene and vehicle specific.

Can Complete 4x4 fit my snorkel?

Yes. Fitting requires cutting the front guard, so most owners prefer a professional job. Our Burwood workshop fits snorkels regularly, call 03 9808 8966 to book a time.
