Choosing an air compressor

Think about how you will use it. Airing down for sand, mud and corrugations is standard practice, and the compressor is what gets you back to road pressure afterwards. A portable kit that lives in a bag suits occasional trips and swapping between vehicles, while a hard mounted unit suits tourers who air up and down constantly and want it plumbed in and ready.

Flow rate and accessories separate the options. Bigger tyres and four corners to fill reward more flow, which is why twin designs exist, and it is worth checking what each kit includes, from hoses to inflation fittings and carry bags. The TJM Pro Series covers single and twin options, while the Mean Mother Adventure 4 includes a wireless remote.

Air compressor FAQs

What size compressor do I need?

It depends on tyre size and how often you air up. Larger tyres and frequent touring reward higher flow, while a compact portable kit can be fine for occasional beach trips. Call the Burwood team on 03 9808 8966 and we will match one to your setup.

Should I choose a portable or vehicle mounted compressor?

Portable kits are flexible and move between vehicles, while permanent mounting keeps the compressor wired, secure and always ready. If you air down most weekends, mounting is worth considering. We can mount and wire a compressor at our Burwood workshop.

Why should I air down my tyres off road?

Lower pressures lengthen the tyre footprint for traction on sand and soft ground, and soften corrugations. Reinflating promptly on the bitumen matters for tyre life and safety, which is where a good compressor earns its keep.
