Choosing recovery straps

Match the strap to the job and the vehicle. Snatch straps stretch under load to build kinetic energy, and the rating needs to suit the vehicles involved, which is why TJM offers several ratings across its range. Kinetic recovery ropes work on the same stretch principle, while winch extension straps do a different job entirely, adding low stretch reach to a distant anchor point.

Straps are not a set and forget purchase. Check for cuts, fraying and embedded grit before every trip, and retire any strap that has taken a hard recovery or shows damage. A tree trunk protector belongs in every kit too, protecting the anchor tree and giving your strap or winch rope a proper connection point.

Recovery strap FAQs

What rating should my snatch strap be?

A common guide is a strap rated at roughly two to three times the gross vehicle mass of the lighter vehicle in the recovery. Technique and setup matter just as much as the number, so call the Burwood team on 03 9808 8966 if you are unsure.

What is a tree trunk protector for?

It wraps around a tree or other solid anchor to spread the load, protecting the tree and your strap or winch rope. It is standard kit for winch recoveries and anchor setups.

How should I store recovery straps?

Clean and dry. Rinse out mud and grit after use, let the strap dry fully, then store it away from sunlight, fuel and chemicals, as grit and UV both weaken webbing over time.
