Know before you buy

Before you buy drawers or a fridge slide

Drawers and fridge slides turn a tub or cargo area into organised, reachable storage. Measure first, then match the slide to your fridge.

  1. Measure the space

Drawer systems are made for specific vehicles and tub or cargo sizes. Check the listing's fitment and dimensions against your vehicle.

  2. Match slide and fridge

Choose a slide rated for your fridge's loaded weight and with a tray big enough for its footprint. Drop slides lower the fridge so you can reach into it.

  3. Strap it down

Secure the fridge to the slide with proper tie-downs; MSA recommends cam straps.

  4. Seats in a wagon

Removing seats for drawers needs no VASS certificate unless it changes the vehicle's category, but VicRoads must be told when an adult seat is permanently removed (VSI 19).

Common questions

Do I need to tell VicRoads if I take seats out for drawers?

Yes, if an adult seat is removed permanently. You don't need a VASS certificate unless the change alters the vehicle's category, and taking a seat out temporarily is fine if the seatbelts stay and airbags aren't affected (VSI 19).

Drop slide or straight slide?

A straight slide pulls the fridge out at the same height. A drop slide also lowers it, which makes a tall fridge easier to reach into from a high tub or cargo floor.

What load can a fridge slide take?

Each slide has its own rating; check the product's specifications against your fridge's full weight.
