- What it actually does
A catch can collects oil mist from the engine's breather before it reaches the intake. A pre-filter catches fuel contaminants before the factory filter. A throttle controller changes how the accelerator pedal responds.
- Emissions
VicRoads' general approvals cover most electrical work, but not changes that affect emissions or safety systems (VSI 8). Anything that changes how the engine runs needs that check.
- Servicing
Catch cans need draining and filters need changing on a schedule. Check the maker's service interval before you buy.
Common questions
Does a throttle controller add power?
No. It changes how quickly the engine responds to the accelerator pedal, not the engine's output.
Does a catch can need maintenance?
Yes. The collected oil has to be drained regularly; the maker's instructions give the interval.
Will a performance chip affect my registration?
VicRoads' general approvals don't cover changes that affect emissions (VSI 8). Check how any engine change is approved before fitting it.
