Choosing a catch can and pre filter

Modern common rail diesels recirculate crankcase vapours through the intake, and a catch can traps oil mist before it can coat the intake and intercooler. That is why they are a popular addition to hard working utes and tourers. A fuel pre filter adds a second line of defence, filtering fuel and separating water before it reaches the factory filter and injectors.

Are catch cans worth it on a modern diesel?

On engines with crankcase ventilation, oil vapour can mix with soot and build up in the intake over time. A catch can traps much of that vapour before it enters the intake, and the Burwood team can advise whether one suits your engine.

What does a fuel pre filter do?

A pre filter sits before the factory fuel filter to add extra filtration and water separation. The goal is cleaner fuel reaching the factory filter and injectors, which matters if you fill up in remote areas where fuel quality varies.

Can I fit a catch can or pre filter myself?
