Choosing a dash camera
Resolution and coverage are the two big decisions. Higher resolution recordings, such as 2K and 4K, make it easier to read number plates when reviewing footage, while a dual camera setup adds a rear view so you are covered from both directions. For touring, GPS logging is handy because it stamps location and speed data onto your recordings.
Also consider how you will get footage off the camera. Wi-Fi models let you download clips to your phone instead of pulling the memory card. We stock AUTOBACS dash cameras in Super HD, 2K and 4K options alongside the IGO range by Uniden, and a neat hardwired installation keeps cables out of sight.
Dash camera FAQs
Do I need a dual dash camera?
A front camera covers most incidents, but a rear camera protects you in nose to tail situations where fault is disputed. If you tow, keep in mind a trailer or caravan can block the rear view, so talk to us about camera placement.
Should I hardwire my dash camera?
Hardwiring keeps the camera powered without a cable draped across your dash, and it enables parked recording on cameras that support it. Our Burwood workshop can supply and hardwire your camera for a tidy finish.
What resolution do I actually need?
Full HD is workable, but 2K and 4K recordings capture finer detail like number plates at distance. If you are unsure which model suits your driving, call our Burwood team on 03 9808 8966.
