Choosing recovery and tyre gear
Start with the recoveries you are most likely to face. Sand and mud driving calls for recovery boards, a shovel and an accurate tyre gauge for airing down, while remote touring justifies a winch, a recovery jack and rated straps. Match every load bearing item to your vehicle's weight, and only ever connect to rated recovery points, never to tie down loops or a tow ball.
Safety gear is no place to guess. Our range features Bushranger and Mean Mother recovery equipment alongside HardKorr accessories, so you can build a kit around proven hardware. For most drivers, boards, straps and a shovel cover weekend touring, and a winch earns its place once trips get more remote or solo.
Recovery and tyre FAQs
What size winch do I need?
A common guideline is a rated line pull of at least one and a half times your vehicle's loaded weight, with heavier touring rigs at the top of that range. Call the Burwood team on 03 9808 8966 and we can match a Bushranger winch to your setup.
Are recovery boards worth carrying?
For most drivers they are the simplest first recovery option in sand or mud. They need no anchor point and little training to use well. Pair them with a shovel and a tyre gauge for the biggest benefit.
Can you fit recovery gear at your workshop?
Yes. We supply and fit winches and recovery accessories at our Burwood workshop in Melbourne's east, including mounting and wiring.
