Choosing a 4x4 fridge and camp kitchen setup
Size is the first decision. Think about how many people you feed, how many days you go between shops, and whether you want a freezer section for longer trips. A fridge slightly bigger than you think you need usually gets filled, but every extra litre draws more power and takes up more of the canopy or cargo area.
Power and access matter just as much. A 12 volt fridge runs day and night, so plan battery capacity around it, and mount the fridge where you can reach it without unpacking camp. Fridge slides and pantry units, like the Clearview gear we stock, bring the fridge out to you, and an Engel fridge paired with the right slide makes a tidy long term setup.
Fridges & Ovens FAQs
What size fridge should I buy?
It depends on people, trip length and how you eat. A couple doing weekends away needs far less capacity than a family touring for weeks. Tell our Burwood team how you travel and we will help you land on a size that works.
Do I need a second battery to run a fridge?
Running a fridge from your starting battery risks waking up to a vehicle that will not crank. Most tourers run a second battery or a portable power station so the fridge can work overnight safely.
Can you fit fridge slides and wiring?
Yes. Our Burwood workshop fits slides, drawers and 12 volt wiring so your fridge is powered and secure. Call 03 9808 8966 to book it in.
