Choosing a tow bar
Start with your vehicle's braked towing capacity and the loads you actually pull, because the bar, tongue and hitch all need to be rated for the job. Vehicle specific bars are engineered around each model's chassis and mounting points, which is why our TJM options are listed by make, model and build date rather than as universal parts.
Think about accessories at the same time. Towing electrics need to match your trailer's plug, and heavier trailers with electric brakes bring a brake controller into the picture. Tow ball mount height and drop affect how level the trailer sits, so it pays to sort the mount when the bar goes on rather than afterwards.
Tow bar FAQs
Are tow bars vehicle specific?
Yes. A tow bar is engineered for a particular make, model and build date so it bolts to the correct chassis points and carries its rating safely. Check the fitment on each listing, or call us on 03 9808 8966 to confirm.
What is a rear bar with an integrated tow bar?
A standard tow bar mounts behind or below the factory bumper, while a rear bar with an integrated tow bar replaces the rear bumper entirely, typically adding protection and a step. The right choice depends on how you use the vehicle off road.
Can Complete 4x4 fit my tow bar?
Yes. We supply and fit TJM tow bars and rear bars at our Burwood workshop in Melbourne's east, and can advise on towing electrics at the same time. You can also order online with Australia-wide shipping.
